Formally housed the Gaud School for Boys (which would later merge with with Porter Millitary Academy to form Porter-Gaud School), and then later would, ironically, be home to Bishop John England, whose namesake is borne by Bishop England High School
(to non-Charlestonians: Porter-Gaud and BE are rivals, which is why I said it was ironic)
